Spring Cleansing... From the Inside, OUT

     With the onset of nice weather, its the time of year when we all start thinking about our spring-cleaning routines. We tidy the house, clean out the garage, and trim back the garden to make room for another year of freshness. 

     And while we're well versed in the cleansing routine of our home and gardens, we often don't consider purging what we've accumulated on the inside. Holiday meals, social indulgences and winter hibernation all pose an overload on our liver, a sluggishness on our digestion, and a dampening on our immune system.

     Now, I often veer away from the term detox, as we commonly associate it with starving ourselves and purging our innards. In my opinion, this approach is neither healthy or helpful. 

Let me explain why... 
      Bioaccumulation (aka, the toxic stuff we aim to get rid of) that comes from lifestyle exposures such as pesticides, detergents, cleaning products, alcohol, etc is most commonly cleansed via the liver and/or stored in our fat cells. When we engage in rapid weight loss style detoxes, we dump all of these toxins into our blood stream, and overwhelm the liver (which usually cannot keep up). You may hear of (or have personally experienced with) these type of detoxes causing drops in energy, headaches, nausea, digestive upset, etc. This is often because we're inducing a temporary state of toxicity, which is not the goal of detoxing. Therefore, when approaching a cleanse or detox, theres no better way to do so than by following the principles of slow and steady wins the race.

     To make the process of rehabilitating much easier, I've complied a free ebook of my step by step process on how to properly cleanse the body. There are three critical components to doing this: 

 REMOVE: temporarily removing any components that cause inflammation

 REPAIR: repair detoxification pathways and the body's terrain 
 
 REPLENISH: add in some great technique to maintain all the hard work you've done
